Keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum: A diagnostic and therapeutic challenge

چکیده
KA: keratoacanthoma KCM: keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum INTRODUCTION Keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum (KCM) is a rare variant of keratoacanthoma (KA) possessing several characteristics distinguishing it from typical KAs. Clinical presentation deviates from common KAs with lesions that continually expand peripherally. KCM also deviates from the usual histologic findings with a lack of some classic KA features. This is probably attributable to sampling issues given the size of the lesions and the limited capacity of a biopsy. Because of its rarity and lack of distinctive histopathologic features, KCM poses a difficult diagnostic challenge to clinicians and pathologists. Excellent communication and collaboration between the clinician and the pathologist is crucial for the correct and timely diagnosis, allowing for quick and proper treatment of the patient.

Keratoacanthoma Centrifugum Marginatum with Atypical Scar
Keratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum (KCM) is a rare variant of keratoacanthoma (KA). It is characterized by a progressive peripheral expansion and central healing leaving atrophic scar. It is sometimes confused with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) both clinically and histopathologically. We here report a case of KCM over the extensor aspect of the right forearm in a 57-year-old man with an abn...
متن کاملKeratoacanthoma centrifugum marginatum: unresponsive to oral retinoid and successfully treated with wide local excision
We describe a case of a 65-year-old male presenting with a large plaque with a rolled-out interrupted margin, atrophic center, and island of normal skin over the left arm. It grew peripherally with central healing, and there was a history of recurrence after inadequate excision. Investigations ruled out other clinical mimickers; namely, squamous cell carcinoma, lupus vulgaris, botryomycosis, an...

BACKGROUND Retinoids have the capacity to accelerate the involution of multiple keratoacanthomas, including unusual variants such as keratoacanthoma marginatum centrifugum and keratoacanthoma en plaque that may persist and be associated with progressive growth and provide difficulties in diagnosis and management. OBSERVATIONS We describe 3 patients who had unusual infiltrated and keratotic pl...

متن کامل[Approaches to the dermatopathologic diagnosis of figurate lesions].
Both clinical and pathologic findings must be considered when diagnosing figurate skin lesions, which are often seen in routine practice. Although a skin biopsy may sometimes be diagnostic, more often the information provided is nonspecific. In an attempt to offer an approach to diagnosing these dermatoses, we have classified annular lesions according to the presence of lymphocytic, neutrophili...
